Purpose
- To evaluate the reading and writing skills of English language learners in basic school settings
- To test language minority students for initial identification and redesignation
- To provide placement information for instructional programs
- To monitor progress and growth in English language development
- To provide diagnostic information for program planning
Administration
- Group administered (paper or online)
- Paper administration guided by administration script; online administration by the computer
- Paced appropriately to respect English language learner's need to determine their own reading speed

- Alternate forms for pre- and post-testing; either form may be used for initial identification or re-designation
- Written and normed according to American Psychological Association (APA) standards
